<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #d4d4c7; font-family: times, Georgia;"><span style="font-size: 60px; line-height: 42px;">H</span></span>ello, it’s Courtney! I shared here recently that I’ve been living with my sister and brother-in-law in a small room in their new townhouse.
I’ve really been enjoying this new space and have been learning a lot
about what works and doesn’t work when decorating a small room!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here are five things that I think every small bedroom needs:</div>
<div class="pib-hover-container pib-hover-container-aligncenter" style="clear: both;">
<img alt="Storage Ottoman Round Up - Ideas for Decorating a Small Bedroom" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-76631 pib-hover-img" height="800" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Storage-Ottoman-Round-Up-Ideas-for-Decorating-a-Small-Bedroom1.jpg" width="600" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://bit.ly/1nbfr1o" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">one</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1kVT30q" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">two</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1kVTic1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">three</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1kVT705" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">four</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1kVTec9" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">five</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1kVSYdb" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">six</a></div>
<h4>
1. Furniture that Maximizes Space</h4>
Choose furniture that fills the space you have available and uses it
to its maximum potential. In my room, I had one narrow wall that I knew
right away needed a tall freestanding wardrobe to hold clothing and
shoes. A narrow dresser would have fit in the corner as well, but
a dresser is shorter and the top would likely just collect clutter. The
wardrobe fills up a lot more of the vertical space and everything is
behind closed doors (no visible clutter!).<br />
I also found an upholstered storage ottoman at Target that serves as
the perfect nightstand, an extra seat, and great storage. Whether it’s a
double-duty piece of furniture, or just a piece of furniture that
uses space efficiently, the choices you make for a small room are going
to make or break its potential for organization.<br />
<h4>
<img alt="Wall Hooks and Shelves - Ideas for Decorating and Organizing a Small Bedroom" class="aligncenter wp-image-76616 size-full pib-hover-img" height="800" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Wall-Hooks-and-Shelves.jpg" width="600" /></h4>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://bit.ly/1yYOh3f" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">one</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1yXyemu" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">two</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1z1U9sy" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">three</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1kVwbhD" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">four</a> // <a href="http://www.wayfair.com/Woodland-Imports-Wall-Shelf-Hook-with-Single-Top-Storage-Space-50466-WLI5385.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">five</a></div>
<h4>
2. Wall Hooks and Shelves</h4>
Vertical spaces are so valuable, especially in a room that’s low on
square footage and closet space. Add wall hooks to hang bags and coats,
and wall shelves to hold books, plants, and anything else you want
displayed. I found this great wall shelf and hook combo at Target last
week and I can’t wait to get it hung on the wall by my doorway!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://bit.ly/1naYjZK" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">one</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1naY94C" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">two</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1kVHBlz" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">three</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1pOFxvz" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">four</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1naXY9q" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">five</a></div>
<h4>
3. Layers and Texture</h4>
A small bedroom can be cozy, so play that up with the addition of
textures you love! Add several pillows in various touch-worthy fabrics, a
warm textured throw blanket for chilly nights, floor to ceiling drapery
so you’ll feel all tucked in your nest, and a soft rug that helps to
ground the space.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://bit.ly/1kT1byU" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">one</a> // <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20231325/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">two</a> // <a href="http://www.lightingnewyork.com/product/visual-comfort-studio-siena-flush-mount-ss4015hab-wg.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">three</a></div>
<h4>
4. Light</h4>
I’m very thankful that my room has a ton of light from a wide window
above my bed and a sliding door out to a tiny patio. I open the blinds
every morning and let the natural light stream in all day, which really
makes my room feel like it doubled in size.<br />
If your small room is lacking in natural light, you can always add
layers of lighting! As tiny as my room is, I still have an overhead
light, a plug-in sconce clipped to shelves by my bed, and an accent lamp
on a table. Lighting from various sources provide a nice pleasant
ambience and make a small room more functional.<br />
<h4>
<img alt="Mirrors - Ideas for Decorating a Small Bedroom" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-76629 pib-hover-img" height="800" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Mirrors-Ideas-for-Decorating-a-Small-Bedroom.jpg" width="600" /></h4>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://bit.ly/1nbandi" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">one</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1z2sWpI" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">two</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1nba7Lw" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">three</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1kVPOpJ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">four</a> // <a href="http://bit.ly/1z2sR5x" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">five</a> // <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50135515/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">six</a></div>
<h4>
5. Reflection</h4>
If you have a small space without a mirror, you need one!
Truly. I finally just bought an over-the-door full length mirror for my
room and I can’t even explain what a huge difference it’s made! Not only
can I actually see my full outfits before I head out the door (ha) but
my room has visually expanded. Light streams in from the glass door
across from it, reflecting the light outside from any angle in my room.<br />

Have
you ever watched Rehab Addict on HGTV? I binged watched that when I
went home for the holidays and have been furniture crazy ever since.<br />
I
recently moved into my new apartment and have been going bonkers over
what all I need to get in order to make it as cozy as possible. Right
now I've got a desk, a bookshelf, <span>a nightstand, a rug, </span>a
fake plant, a pendant light without a bulb and a mattress on the floor.
(I'm sliding off of it every night and probably inhaling dust bunnies
and spiders while I'm at it.)<br />
I've been spending my free
time browsing through interior design blogs to get inspiration for my
room, and then the regret starts kicking it. Seriously. There is some
freakishly unexplainable aspect of interior design that I'm never going
to get. Sometimes I find myself just sitting and thinking about how
someone could make a room look so damn good. I wish I learned! But
anyway, there's clearly a reoccurring theme in the rooms that
I gravitate towards--I love hues of grey, good lighting and geometric
shapes.<br />
I'm also on the hunt for some art pieces for a gallery
wall I want by my window. Let me know where all the pretty prints are
because I'm struggling to find any.</div>

Have you ever been to Finland? The Finns have a simply beautiful,
natural sense of style - often pared-back and monochrome with a hint of
colour. Nature also plays an important role. Today I decided to re-visit
the lovely home of Maiju of <a href="http://maijusaw.indiedays.com/page/3/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">indie days</a> (formerly 'my second hand life'). I once showed her kitchen decked out for Christmas
but never shots from the entire home. I think it's definitely about
time don't you?! So here's a sneak peek into Maiju's lovely home full of
inspiring details and new ideas. I could live here, could you?!<br />

Wake up it's a beautiful morning! At least if you imagine you're
floating around this dreamy white Swedish apartment. Styled for sale by<a href="http://www.stadshem.se/till-salu/obj24162_1413155213#images" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Stadshem</a>,
the space has been decorated almost entirely in white and light wood,
with the faintest touches of greys. A perfect way to start the week,
don't you think?<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">

in new carpet, then the kitchen table didn't look good, then I moved the
dining room table into the kitchen and now I have a living room again!</div>

ideas. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is one that I recently Pinned and has me inspired!</div>

It was an article from <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/899375/how-he-does-it">Martha Stewart</a> on a tasting party at New York City's Pasanella and Son Vintners. </div>

<strong>Displayed book collections,
studies and library rooms can be a wonderful and rich addition to any
home, and I have always been intrigued with, and drawn to them! They are
found in old world palaces, chateaus, estates, offices and many
different types of homes these days throughout the world, whether in an
entire room or a dedicated space within a room.</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Something about the look and feel
of these types of spaces is warm and compelling as they draw one in to
immerse in a regal richness, personal history, decor and architecture
they can hold, beckoning one to stay a while.</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Library rooms/spaces can be used
for many purposes including small and intimate gatherings and in many
cases are a perfect place to display collections that evoke wonder,
curiosity and awe!</strong></div>

<strong>I love this idea of placing art
or framed portraits in front of book and decor collections as shown in
the photo below. Here, the portraits are propped up with small stacks
of books which make them a part of the bookcase display and practically
speaking, prevent putting a nail into the bookcase to hang such pictures
which also gives the flexibility to easily change things around when
desired!</strong></div>

I have been organizing over the weekend while I was waiting for paint
to dry on a few projects that I have been working on. The biggest one –
the wood file cabinet for my studi<em>office</em> that I showed you
last week. I am almost finished it. It still has a few more tweaks to
go and then I will post about it. Today I thought I would show you
some of the organizing ideas I have used for the shelves above the
cabinet.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Organiaing Ideas The Container Store Magazine File Knock-off tutorial" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="740" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/White-Bookcase-organizing-i_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: block; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="The Container Store Magazine File Knock-Off Tutorial" width="560" /></a></div>
<br />
Lots of organized and labeled storage! I got my inspiration from the colorful magazine files <em><a href="http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10029984&N=&Ns=p_sort_default%7C0&Ntt=magazine+holders" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Container Store</a></em>
sells. I love all the juicy colors, but didn’t want to spend $9.99 a
piece for them when I knew I could make something similar for about $3 a
piece.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Organizing Ideas How to make your own Container-Store-Magazine-File" border="0" class="aligncenter shareaholic-media-target-hover-state" height="523" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Container-Store-Magazine-Fi_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: block; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Container-Store-Magazine-File Knock-off" width="560" /></a></div>
<br />
I used some of my stash of favorite gift wrap to cover cardboard file
boxes I bought at the office supply store. IKEA also sells them – 2
per pack. I know they are called Magazine Files, but I store more than
magazines in them. They are the perfect way to store lots of items
neatly while keeping them easily accessible.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="OrganizingIdeas Book-Shelf-Organization with DIY Labels" border="0" class="aligncenter shareaholic-media-target-hover-state" height="740" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Book-Shelf-Organization_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: block; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Book-Shelf-Organization with DIY Labels" width="560" /></a></div>
<br />
I am loving all the colors against the white wood – just my style – Ooooh..la…la.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Home-Office-Organizing-Tips" border="0" class="shareaholic-media-target-hover-state" height="740" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Home-Office-Organizing-Idea_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Home-Office-Organizing-Tips" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
I also found pretty and colorful new file folders at Walmart – 3 for
$1.00. I will use them in a portable clear file I store on these
shelves.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="CarolinaPad pretty file folders" border="0" class="shareaholic-media-target-hover-state" height="425" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Walmart-Decorative-File-Fo_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Walmart-Decorative-File--Folders" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
I could not decide which pattern I liked best so I bought all three. Aren’t they yummy?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Walmart-Studio-C-File-Folders" border="0" height="425" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Walmart-Studio-C-File-Folde_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Walmart-Studio-C-File-Folders" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
They are from <a href="http://carolinapad.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">CarolinaPad.com</a>.
When I got home from Walmart – I went online to check out their website
– lots of pretty stuff to help you organize your life and more.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Home Office Storage Idea" border="0" class="" height="740" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Computer-Paper-Storing-and-_thumb.jpg" style="border: 0px none; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Computer-Paper-Storage Idea" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
If you have been reading my blog for awhile then you know I collect
square and rectangular baskets. Here is one way I use them: to neatly
organize and stack the different types of paper we use in the computer
printer. Since they are stacked, they take up less room and can be
moved easily to get to the paper you need.<br />
<br />
Since half the battle of getting organized is being able to stay
organized, I am a big believer in labeling everything. Now everyone in
my family knows which basket to find the paper they need. No more
“Mom-min” anymore with – “Mom, <em>Where is the printer paper”.</em><br />
I attached the labels with large jewelry making jump rings, but a piece of wire or ribbon would work just as well.<br />

<br />
<em>Optional:</em> I needed to cut the file boxes to fit the height
of my shelf. I used a straight edge and a craft knife to cut away a half
inch from the top edge.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Cardboard-Magazine-File" border="0" class="shareaholic-media-target-hover-state" height="425" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Cardboard-Magazine-File_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Cardboard-Magazine-File" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
1. Carefully open the box as shown so that it is flat. Once you cover it with gift wrap you will glue it together again.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Covering-a-Magazine-File" border="0" height="380" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Covering-a-Magazine-File_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Covering-a-Magazine-File" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
2. Lay file box flat and cut gift wrap slightly larger than the box.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Giftwrap-covered-magazine-file tutorial" border="0" class="" height="415" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Giftwrap-covered-magazine-f_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Giftwrap-covered-magazine-file tutorial" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
3. Lay gift wrap right-side face down. Spray glue on outer side of
file box, let it get tacky and lay it on wrong side of gift wrap. If
there is a pattern on the gift wrap, make sure it is straight. Cut
excess gift wrap into tabs, spray glue around edge of box, let get tacky
and then fold the tabbed gift wrap over to secure. Note: If gift wrap
is thin – don’t use spray glue on the back of it as it may bleed through
– just spray it on the box.<br />
<br />

<br />
4. Once you have the box covered, use a line of hot glue <em>(as shown on tab above)</em> to glue it together again.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Home Office Organizing Ideas" border="0" class="shareaholic-media-target-hover-state" height="425" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Glue-back-down_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Home Office Organizing Ideas" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
5. Fold opposite side on top of hot glue. It will go right back into
place. Place something heavy on top of it until the hot glue cools.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Container-Store-Knock-Off-Magazine File Box" border="0" class="shareaholic-media-target-hover-state" height="425" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Container-Store-Knock-Off-M_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border: 0px none; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Container-Store-Knock-Off-Magazine File Box" width="560" /></a><br />

How to Make The Labels</h3>
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Free-Printable-Magazine-File Labels" border="0" height="425" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Free-Printable-Magazine-Fil_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Free-Printable-Magazine-File Labels" width="560" /></a><br />
<br />
1. Print out .pdf of labels on cardstock. If you want to use fonts
on your computer for your labels, open the pdf in a program where you
can write over them. I know you can do this in Photoshop Elements. If
not, use a pen and write directly on them. I used the font <em>Engravers MT</em>. Place a piece of acetate over it and then cut around the border of the label so the acetate and the label are the same size.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Free-Printable-Organizing-Labels" border="0" class="shareaholic-media-target-hover-state" height="425" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/01/Free-Printable-Organizing-L_thumb.jpg" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Free-Printable-Organizing-Labels" width="560" /></a><br />

2. Use a hole punch to make two holes in the label.<br />

Remember the before image of the linen closet
I showed you last week? Well, I don’t quite have the full reveal to
show you yet. It has been warm and sunny here the past few days. After
the long and cold winter, it felt so good to spend time outdoors in the
sunshine and open every window in the house.<br />
<br />
Before the weather turned nice, I did finish organizing the contents
of dollar store baskets I keep in my linen closet and made tag style
labels to keep all the small items in them organized.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Organize in style Storage and organizing ideas for bathroom closets" class="aligncenter wp-image-32468 size-full" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/Bathroom-storage-free-printable-labels.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
If you have a dollar store in your area, I bet you have one or more
of these plastic baskets in your home. They come in many sizes and
colors. For a buck, they give back one thousand times and are one
budget-friendly way to organize the small stuff in every room.<br />
<br />
I use them in drawers, cabinets, basement, and garage to organize in style and even made them the focal point in the organizer I made for my mudroom.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Dollar store organizing baskets" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-21837" height="825" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2013/09/Mudroom-Decorating-Ideas_thumb.jpg" width="550" /></a><br />
<br />
Do you remember it. I created it from a discarded dresser that I found on the side of the road. It is still one of my most popular project posts.<br />
<br />
<span id="more-32465"></span><br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Bathroom organizing ideas and free printable labels" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32467" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/bathroom-organizing-ideas-using-baskets-and-labels.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
The key to making the contents in the baskets stay organized is to label them. I have posted quite a few ways I
like to make labels. From hand printing to using my computer. Labels
make all the difference in keeping what you just purged and
organized…ORGANIZED! No more guessing where something goes…the label
tells you ———> it goes right in HERE.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Organizing bathroom products " class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32476" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/Organizing-bathroom-products.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
To add a bit of personality to the classic white tag style labels I
made, I used pink grosgrain ribbon to tie each label to a basket. Just a
little detail that makes me smile. In my mind, adding a touch of pink
to just about anything is always a good thing.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #ff99cc;"><strong>How To Make Affordable Labels To Organize Bins, Baskets, Boxes, and More</strong></span><br />
Before the birth of the “free printable label”, I always made my
organizing labels on my computer. I still do, but nowadays it is easy to
find pre-made labels of every color and style imaginable. Just do a
search on Google or Pinterest for <em>“Free Printable Labels”</em>. If you are looking for a specific kind of label, just add that to your search query. For example: <em>Free Printable Mason Jar Labels</em>.<br />
<br />
Most of us have computer printers which makes label making easy. The
hardest part about making the labels will be choosing which labels to
choose from the hundreds that will show up in your search. All you need
is a pair of scissors or a paper cutter, a hole punch, and some pretty
ribbon.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="How to cut free printable labels" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32474" height="450" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/How-to-cut-free-printable-labels.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
I like classic white labels and use white card stock when I print out
my labels. I place a notebook paper reinforcement ring around the hole
when I make the hang style tag to add some character to each label.<br />
<h3>
<span style="color: #ff99cc;">Helpful Tips for Cutting and Printing Free Printable Labels and Tags</span></h3>
If you don’t own a digital cutting machine like a Silhouette or
Cricut that cuts and prints labels for you, here are a few tips that
will make the process of cutting and printing them easier.<br />
<ul>
<li>Do you know all the bells and whistles on your computer printer?
After downloading labels, depending on your printer, you can resize the
labels to fit the size you need before printing them out. Custom made
with just a few clicks. Check your printer manual to see what options
your printer has.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>When printing color labels, the color you see on your computer
screen may print out differently on paper. Computer and print colors
render differently. The colors may not look quite as vibrant when
printed.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>I use a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017KYE5Y/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0017KYE5Y&linkCode=as2&tag=inmyowst-20&linkId=2IPR2HTLNTGEVYXQ" target="_blank">12″ portable paper cutter </a>to cut out all my labels. You can buy these at craft stores and on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017KYE5Y/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0017KYE5Y&linkCode=as2&tag=inmyowst-20&linkId=2IPR2HTLNTGEVYXQ" target="_blank">Amazon</a> for under $20.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>For round labels and tags, cut around the basic shape, then stack 2
or 3 and use a sharp pair of scissors to cut the exact shape. This
makes the process of cutting out the labels go quickly by stacking and
cutting more than one at a time.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Labels can do more than organize your stuff, they also make great gift tags.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9Q9QY0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00B9Q9QY0&linkCode=as2&tag=inmyowst-20&linkId=B3KKPJTVJW3XPBVK" target="_blank">Clear Sticker Paper </a>that
works with most computer printers is another way to print out free
printable labels you download. It gives them a clear ready-made look. It
is what I used to make these Basement Organizing Labels.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>These Wipe Off Labels I
use on the front of boxes are attached with brass fasteners. I buy the
fasteners at the office supply store or in the scrapbooking aisle at the
craft store.</li>
</ul>
<h3>
<span style="color: #ff99cc;">Download Tag Style Labels</span></h3>
I created the labels for my linen closet using the free font, Modern No. 20.
If you’re wondering, the basket labeled “Smile” contains all things
having to do with mouth and teeth. “Smile” sounded much better to me for
the tag. :-)<br />
I also made blank labels for you to customize.<br />

<br />
Did I mention in my last post that once this closet is organized, I
can officially say – I am clutter-free! I have purged and decluttered
every room in my house.<br />
I am finishing up the floor in the linen closet today and will show you the after of the closet in my next post.<br />
To find all the labels I have created and posted about head over to my Free Printable Project Gallery.<br />
Till then… XO<br />

This week I passed a huge milestone in my life. I was able to cross
off the last space in my house on my declutter/purge list. If you have
been following my blog, you know this has been an ongoing project…
decluttering every room. It started with my attic a few years ago. I
have been going slowly from room to room since then so the job would not
be too overwhelming. The basement purge took a few weeks; this linen
closet only a few hours.<br />
<br />
Opening drawers and doors and seeing fresh, tidy and organized
instead of postponed decisions of what to do with all the un-needed
items has energized me. It is a great feeling.<br />
I started my total house declutter/purge when I thought we might be
moving. Who knows if we ever will, living with long-term unemployment
has become our way of life, but I know now that if we do move, getting
the house ready to sell will be easier.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Decluttering a linen closet before and after budget makeover" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32509" height="720" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/Decluttering-a-Linen-Closet-Before-and-After-Makeover.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
When we first moved into the house 20+ years ago, I was so happy to
have a big closet for linens and bathroom supplies. Over the years I
kept it semi-organized, but since my daughters moved out on their own,
the closet became a dumping ground of old towels, sheets, rugs, and
bedding.<br />
<br />
I started the purge by removing everything. I bagged up what we
didn’t need and cleaned each shelf and then only put back what we use.
Everything else went to the trash, thrift store, and thanks to Lynn, a
blog reader…I have a bag going to our veterinarian’s office. She told me
that vets and animal shelters often are in need of towels and blankets
when taking care of animals.<br />
<h3>
<strong><a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Decluttering tips" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32508" height="1020" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/Decluttering-tips.jpg" width="680" /></a></strong></h3>
Since this bathroom is used only for guests, I wanted to make it feel
hotel-like. I bought fluffy new white towels at HomeGoods and only kept
one extra set of sheets for each bed in the house.<br />
It was really hard to get a good photo of the entire closet. I tried many different angles. I took this one standing on a stool.<br />
<br />
I didn’t want this to be a major project and opted not to paint the walls and shelves. I only painted the floor.<br />
<br />
<span id="more-32499"></span><br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Storage and organizing ideas for bathroom closets" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32468" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/Bathroom-storage-free-printable-labels.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
I did add white ribbon and upholstery tacks to add a bit of style in
the way of shelf trim. I bought the silver upholstery tacks at Lowes. <br />
<h3>
<span style="color: #33cccc;"> This is how the floor looked <strong>Before:</strong></span></h3>

Many years ago, the vinyl floor in the closet became discolored from
rubber backed bath rugs. I tried everything from Clorox to lemon juice
to try to remove the discoloration, but nothing worked. In one of the
previous houses we lived in, I had painted a vinyl floor with success.
That is how I fixed this floor. I painted it and used a sheet of
adhesive-backed crafting vinyl to make the black squares.<br />
<h3>
<span style="color: #33cccc;">How to Paint a Vinyl Floor</span></h3>
<h3>
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="How to prep a vinyl floor to paint it" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32511" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/How-to-prime-and-paint-a-vinyl-floor.jpg" width="680" /></a></h3>
1. Sand the floor with 60-grit sandpaper to remove some of the
surface shine. Sanding gives the surface some “tooth” so the paint has
something to adhere to. Since the closet is small, I just used my
sanding block. If you are doing an entire room, I would use a power
sander. It will make the job go much faster.<br />
2. Once the floor is roughed up, clean it well with detergent and water and let it dry.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="What is the best primer to paint a floor" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32513" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/the-best-primer-to-use-to-prime-a-vinyl-floor-for-painting.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
3. I used this primer from Behr on the floor in <a href="http://inmyownstyle.com/2014/08/paint-subflooring.html" target="_blank">my fitness room</a>. It is called <em>Behr Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer.</em>
Roll on one very light coat. Let dry. Roll on another light coat and
let dry. If needed, add one more light coat. The key to perfect
adhesion is rolling on more light coats than fewer heavier ones. Let
dry overnight before applying paint.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Painting a vinyl floor tips" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32501" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/How-to-paint-a-vinyl-floor.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
4. I used semi-gloss interior/exterior paint in white to paint the
floor to match the vinyl’s sheen and color before it became discolored.
Using a glossy finish is easier to wipe and clean. You can also use
Floor and Porch paint in a glossy finish.<br />
5. Let the floor dry for a few days before walking on it or placing anything on it.<br />
<h3>
<span style="color: #33cccc;">How To Create The Look of Black Tiles On a Vinyl Floor</span></h3>
I redid the bathroom floor that this closet is in 3 years ago. It was
a $10 makeover with a roll of adhesive backed vinyl that is sold in
craft stores.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Budget floor makeover ideas" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32515" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/Budget-floor-makeover-ideas.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
1. For the painted floor, I used the same method, but needed to
create new lines to connect the black squares. I used a silver paint
marker to do this. I drew over the line impressions in the flooring. If
you look closely, you can see them.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Budget decor floor makeover " class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32518" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/DIY-Black-and-white-checked-vinyl-floor.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
2. Using a clear ruler helped me make sure I was on the lines. The
paint marker dries immediately. I made a few mistakes and had to dab
some white paint over them after I was done.<br />
3. Let dry.<br />
4. I did not seal the floor, but if your floor is going to get a lot of traffic, use a water-based sealer. I like <a href="http://www.rustoleum.com/en/product-catalog/consumer-brands/wood-care/ultimate-polyurethane" target="_blank">Zinsser Ultimate Polyurethane</a>. Make sure to use water-based as it will not yellow your paint.<br />
<h3>
<span style="color: #33cccc;"><strong>After</strong></span><a href="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/How-to-paint-a-vinyl-floor.jpg"><br />
</a> <a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="how to paint a vinyl floor" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32502" height="453" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/Organizing-shelves-in-a-bathroom.jpg" width="680" /></a></h3>
I could have tried to match the paint to the rest of the floor, but
since this is closed off, it didn’t matter to me. I also had white paint
on hand which kept this makeover very budget-friendly.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Linen closet makeover" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32512" height="1020" src="http://inmyownstyle.com/images/2015/04/Linen-Closet-Makeover.jpg" width="680" /></a><br />
<br />
If you want to start decluttering your home, a closet is a good place
to begin before taking on a bigger space like an attic or basement.
Once you get it completed, the feeling of accomplishment will give you
the energy to keep at it one space or room at a time.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="color: #d4d4c7; font-family: times, Georgia;"><span style="font-size: 60px; line-height: 30px;">I</span></span></span>t’s Kylee here today to share with you another update from my townhouse! The <a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/2015/05/progress-report-for-townhouse.html" target="_blank">last time</a>
I showed you my coffee station, it was set up on a wine rack. That was
probably one of the first things we did when we moved in. How else would
we have survived unpacking without coffee?! It was cute and we made
good use out of the wine rack, but we knew it wasn’t going to stay
there. The wall it was on is pretty big and we needed something more
substantial that could hopefully provide some extra storage, too. We had
our eye on some large display cabinets, but recently my grandparents
moved and gave us a really nice John Boos kitchen cart (<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000T8DDZW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000T8DDZW&linkCode=as2&tag=theinsroo0b-20&linkId=77B4N3ZFDK2ZLRS5" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">similar one here</a>)!
It was a great (and free to us!) solution to our ever-growing need for
more kitchen storage, so we repurposed our wine rack (I’ll show you
where that ended up in a future post!) and replaced it with the cart.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Bulk pantry items in jars" class="aligncenter wp-image-84444 size-full pib-hover-img" height="400" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/bulk-pantry.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
I added a floating shelf from Ikea above the cart for our bulk pantry
jars, which helped clear off the kitchen counter. We really don’t
purchase a lot of packaged food and don’t have a pantry, but we do keep a
lot of bulk items in jars. Keeping them all out on the counter
was starting to feel cluttered and took up too much valuable counter
space, so wall shelf was the perfect solution! Some of our less-used
jars are in one of our cupboards and a few in the basket on the bottom
of the cart. We tend to cycle through them quickly, so it’s an
ever-changing display of colors and textures. The handy utensil bar we
used to hang the mugs also came from Ikea.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Coffee Station // The Inspired Room blog - Seattle Townhouse Update" class="aligncenter wp-image-84448 size-full pib-hover-img" height="847" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/coffee-station.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
My favorite part of every morning is coming downstairs and making
coffee at our cute little cart. Weekday mornings we usually make <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HQW6QTY/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00HQW6QTY&linkCode=as2&tag=theinsroo0b-20&linkId=QKSLZGK7BV7NJC5C" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Nespresso</a>
because it’s quick and easy, but on weekends we are all about the
Bialetti or French press. We may put a larger display cabinet here
eventually to hold more of our dishes, but we really love the cart!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Kitchen - The Inspired Room blog Seattle Townhouse Update" class="aligncenter wp-image-84446 size-full pib-hover-img" height="382" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/kitchen.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
I’d love to give you tips on the 435 items everyone must have for the
PERFECT coffee station (if you do want some ideas, my mom put together <a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/2015/05/townhouse-update-new-coffee-cart.html" target="">this post</a> of coffee
station tips) but around here, we are pretty much purists in the coffee
department. Black, strong, maybe some milk and occasionally we
may sweeten our second (third?) cup with a little vanilla, but first
morning coffee is pretty serious unsweetened business. I guess it’s
true, Seattle may have made us into coffee snobs who ironically
aren’t Starbucks fans and demand very particular espresso to milk ratios
on our lattes, but we’re not too far gone…no Chemex or Aeropress (not
yet, anyway!).</div>

Last spring we shared that my daughter Kylee moved into her first
house (remember when she got married? AHH!! And now her first house,
oh my heart).<br />
After studio apartment living, she and her husband Lance bought a small townhouse in Seattle.<br />
My other daughter Courtney rents a room from them in the townhouse and has shared her design plans for
the tiniest room you’ve ever seen. She will be back with an update
soon, but today I invited Kylee back to update us on her progress in
getting settled in their little townhouse!<br />

<span style="color: #d4d4c7; float: left; font-family: times,Georgia; font-size: 60px; line-height: 30px; padding-right: 5px; padding-top: 2px;">H</span>ello!
Kylee, here! It’s been awhile since you last heard from me so
it’s about time I shared a few updates from our townhouse! Last time I
showed you my simple powder bath. Since then I have been slowly making progress to other rooms in my house.<br />
I recently had a day off from work (which means I was actually
home before the sun went down) so I snapped a few peeks of how things
are coming along. I’ll let this be just an overview of a few of our
rooms and then I’ll be back to share more in detail some of the small
space tips and tricks we are using to make this little house our home.<br />
<br />
Our home is a three story townhouse (in Seattle every square foot of
land counts!). As you enter the front door, you find yourself in a long
hallway. We recently painted it white (Swan White by Glidden) for
a cleaner and brighter backdrop for our accessories and rugs.<br />
<br />
To make the most of this small area of our home, we utilized the
entire hallway as functional space, adding some convenient pieces for
storage and coat hanging. We don’t have a coat closet, so the more hooks
the better, I say! The white storage unit above is from <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60156121/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Ikea</a>–it’s
the perfect space-saving piece for a small hallway or entry. The
cabinet doors tilt out and hold gloves and scarves, reusable grocery
bags, shoes, and supplies for Bella, our puppy.<br />
<br />
My favorite new addition in this hallway is our colorful Dash and Albert runner from <a href="http://www.rugstudio.com/dash-and-albert-canyon-92362-area-rug.aspx#92362x6__30700" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Rug Studio</a>. I just love the pop of color, pattern and warmth it adds right when you walk in the door!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Living Room Decorating with Red Couches - Bella the Labradoodle" class="aligncenter wp-image-80978 size-full pib-hover-img" height="730" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Living-Room-and-Bella-the-Labradoodle.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
Bella’s favorite room in the house is definitely the living room
which is on the second level. After many months of basically nothing
going on in this space due to a struggle trying to figure out how to get
our ginormous leather couches up the narrow staircase (I will
finally share that success story with you in my next post–it’s a good
one!). Once we figured out a trick to get our couches in the house, the
room started to come together.<br />
<br />
For warmth, we added the great zig zag rug from <a href="http://www.rugstudio.com/surya-reeds-reed-804-area-rug.aspx?ref=frg&ne_ppc_id=1760&gclid=CLi619zdgsMCFVCVfgodGUwAkw" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Rug Studio</a>
to bring a lot of texture to the room. Since our kitchen and living
area are all one room, I think the rug really helps define this as its
own cozy little area. We haven’t decided exactly what we want above the
couch, so for now we’ve settled on a temporary and inexpensive solution
by using framed Rifle Paper Co <a href="https://riflepaperco.com/midnight-floral-wrapping-sheets/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">wrapping paper</a> as art.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Bella the labradoodle" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-80878 pib-hover-img" height="400" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Bella-the-labradoodle.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
Bella couldn’t be happier to finally have furniture. All she wanted
was a comfy spot. And we couldn’t be happier to finally have a room
where we can invite friends over to sit! We don’t have a dining area
(this really is a SMALL place!) so our sofas and coffee table serve more
than one purpose.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Master bedroom" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-80986 pib-hover-img" height="870" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Master-bedroom2.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
Getting our bedroom set up on the third floor was also a struggle.
Going up one flight of narrow steps was bad enough, but imagine going up
two with large furniture? We have lots of awesome hand me down
furniture from parents and grandparents, but so many of the pieces are
big, heavy and difficult to maneuver around the tight corners in our
townhouse. This is where starting from scratch with new furniture would
have definitely been easier!<br />
<br />
But being a young couple on a budget and wanting to use what we have,
we were determined to make as much of it work as possible. In some
cases, we had to resort to drastic measures.<br />
When we moved in, we quickly discovered that we could not get the
queen-sized box spring up to the third level. We slept on the mattress
on the floor for several months while weighing our options, until we
decided to literally cut our box spring in half and then put it back
together. Crazy, right? But it worked! I’ll share that tale soon too, it
was intense and I have photos to prove it.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Pantry Jars in the Kitchen" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-81211 pib-hover-img" height="400" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Pantry-Jars-in-the-Kitchen.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
While our kitchen is probably double the size of our studio
apartment’s kitchen, we don’t have a separate pantry or a lot of
cupboard space. And I love to cook! We’ve created a makeshift pantry by
putting most of our dried goods into cute jars on the counter and
keeping our cooking utensils in a pitcher next to the stove.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://violetsnewvintage.blogspot.com/"><img alt="Coffee station" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-80889 pib-hover-img" height="876" src="http://theinspiredroom.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Coffee-station.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
And last, but definitely not least, I wouldn’t be my mother’s
daughter if we didn’t have a coffee station. She taught me
well. Our little coffee station is set up on a hand-me-down wine rack.
True to our Portland and Seattle roots, we love our coffee, so it sure
is handy to be able to grab a cup as we head out the door to work every
morning!<br />
<br />
That’s all for now, but I’ll definitely be back to catch you up on the projects I mentioned and to show you more of our home!</div>
